B5 Polymer

Postby ILikeDCorps on Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:33 pm

So I'm starting a project and I need castable resin. I figured my B5 is pretty strong, so why not ask the guys at ICP what they use?

If its not a trade secret or anything, how do you guys cast the parts and where did you get the resin you use?

We use Ballistic glass filled Nylon in our B-5. The tough part is getting the mixture of glass to nylon correct to make it hard but not so hard that it is brittle. There is a percentage that is used for most ballistic parts (like gun handles (glock, etc) (I think it is 5% glass filled).

Unfortunately that you are gong to have to figure out on your own. Ours is provided by the manufacturing company that then makes the B-5 halves (and other parts) using our mold. I have no idea where they get it. You could try a manufacturing supply site. I believe ballistic nylon comes in small pellets that then needs to be melted down at about 1000 degrees to be injectable into the mold forms. (at least in our tests the B-5 still did not melt at 600 degrees, so it would have to be a lot hotter than that.)
